Share

From the lightest material used to the high-speed collaboration, we present our pick of the new watches from Rolex, Zenith, Hublot, and Chopard in the largest and most impressive watch show in the world - Baselworld 2019.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller

Rolex is introducing an Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller in a yellow Rolesor version, combining Oystersteel and 18 ct yellow gold. This new watch brings 18 ct yellow gold to the Sea-Dweller range for the first time. On its black dial, the name “Sea-Dweller” is inscribed in a yellow hue, echoing the colour of the 18 ct yellow gold. When the Sea-Dweller was updated in 2017, this lettering was in red, in reference to the original model. The light reflections on the case sides and lugs highlight the profile of the Sea-Dweller’s 43-mm Oyster case, which features a unidirectional rotatable bezel with a 60-minute graduated Cerachrom insert in black ceramic.

This new version is equipped with calibre 3235, at the forefront of watchmaking technology. Like all Rolex watches, the new Sea-Dweller carries the Superlative Chronometer certification, which ensures excellent performance on the wrist. The Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller is an ultra-resistant tool watch that has played a vital role in the conquering of the deep.

Hublot Classic Fusion Ferrari GT

Now into their ninth year of collaboration, Hublot and Ferrari have clearly kept their creative juices flowing. The latest collection sees the partners resuming their respective duties, with Hublot developing the engine and Ferrari designing the chassis. In a first for the series, Hublot has integrated the 42mm Unico movement into the 45mm Classic Fusion case. The movement features a column wheel flyback chronograph with a three-day power reserve, perfect for those long drives this collection is inspired by.

Although the watch is a pretty sizeable 45mm, it sits nicely on the wrist and doesn’t overpower it. Crucial to this is a unique case design that’s suspended in the middle such that the dial's visual impact is enhanced. The collection is available in King Gold, titanium and 3D carbon, a material closely associated with motorsport for its lightness, resistance and outstanding protection, reinforcing the Ferrari connection. Petrolheads, you’re gonna want in.

Zenith Defy El Primero 21 Carbon

A high-performance, unprecedented calibre such as the El Primero 21 deserves a resolutely contemporary design, while remaining faithful to the Zenith El Primero heritage of boundary-pushing precision. Featuring a combination of straight lines and angles, the geometric facets of the case perfectly complement the voluminous architecture of the openworked movement. The highest frequency chronograph ever to be serially produced now comes in a lightweight and robust carbon fibre case.

Its captivating visual effect is stealthy and edgy at once, giving the material a versatile and easily wearable aspect. And with this version of the DEFY El Primero 21, it’s not just the faceted case and round bezel that are forged from carbon, but also the crown and chronograph pushers. Completing the ergonomics of the DEFY El Primero 21 Carbon is a choice of two straps: a black textured rubber strap, and a special rubber strap with a carbon effect for the ultimate urbanite look.

Chopard L.U.C Flying T Twin

With the new L.U.C Flying T Twin, Chopard is unveiling its first calibre equipped with a flying tourbillon. This technically and aesthetically sophisticated timepiece is distinguished by its remarkable charisma: a hand-guilloché gold dial, impeccable proportions and an ultra-thin 40mm case in ethically certified “Fairmined” rose gold make it a truly exceptional creation within the L.U.C collection.

It’s automatic and has a stop-seconds function, a device that stops the watch running for accurate time setting—still relatively rare in tourbillons. The “twin” in the name refers to two barrels, which combine to deliver a 65-hour power reserve. This extremely refined 50-piece limited series designed for contemporary gentlemen connoisseurs of Fine Watchmaking is certified by the “Poinçon de Genève” quality hallmark.
