The Blancpain Bathyscaphe model, which is part of the Fifty Fathoms series, was initially released in 1956 and was inspired by Swiss oceanographer Jacques Piccard’s underwater explorations. The Bathyscaphe watches from Blancpain were presented as adaptable and attractive land and sea versions for men and women. They were named after Piccard’s ship, the Mariana Trench, which is most known for being one of the first to investigate the deepest parts of the seas.

Since then, the Bathyscaphe series has been a hallmark of Blancpain’s diver’s watch portfolio, and in this year, a Bathyscaphe that comes with Titanium was introduced by Blancpain.

While this is the first time Titanium has been utilized in this collection, the Le Brassus-based business has extensive expertise with the material. It was initially used in a series of MIL SPEC II versions built particularly for US Navy bomb disposal teams in the early 1960s.

Titanium is an ideal choice of metal for a diving watch since it is not only lightweight but also shock, pressure, and corrosion resistant.

This 43mm diver can withstand 300 meters of water. The high-grade Titanium utilized for the precisely curved casing is a blend of titanium, vanadium, and aluminum, providing it great tensile and yield strength but limiting ductility and weldability. Bathyscaphe’s precisely curved brushed finish case is no easy task, so this high quality of Titanium is rarely employed in the manufacture of watches.

A unidirectional satin-brushed titanium bezel with brushed grey ceramic inlay and a Liquidmetal 60-minute scale, a unique metal alloy created by the Swatch group are featured on the new Bathyscaphe.

The vertically brushed anthracite dial has the Bathyscaphe’s characteristic baton-type hands and geometric hour-markers filled with cream Super-LumiNova, as well as a date window at 4:30.

The watch comes with a variety of straps, each precisely designed to complement the mood of the metal, including a textile NATO strap, a sailcloth strap, or a grade 23 titanium 3-link bracelet, which is unique to the Bathyscaphe.

The Bathyscaphe is also equipped with a powerful movement, the in-house calibre 1315, which features three barrels and a power reserve of up to 120 hours. It includes a snailed gold oscillating weight as well.
