Since Giovanni Panerai established his first studio in Florence in 1860, Panerai was well known for its reputation for producing fine watches. In order to increase the number of outstanding Italian watchmakers in the trade, he also founded the first watchmaking school in the city.

Before finding a more populist customer in the 1950s in the civilian markets, Panerai had a long history of delivering watches and equipment to military forces. Then, in 1993, Officine Panerai released the first two models, the Luminor Marina and the Mare Nostrum chronograph, in restricted quantities for the public.

The following year, a cautious roll-out started in Italy, and a global debut was scheduled for 1999. The Luminor and Luminor Marina made their debuts on a global scale in three different iterations. These pieces’ case sizes, which were all 44 mm or bigger, set them apart from other luxury watches on the market and added an intriguing attraction.

The Luminor series is currently being expanded by Panerai to include a wearable 40mm model. For individuals with smaller wrists or those who prefer a smaller watch profile while maintaining the Panerai DNA, this enhances the fit of the watch.

The cushion-shaped case comes in AISI 316L brushed steel material and features a polished bezel and a safety lock crown guard. A stunning military matte green dial with a trademark Panerai sandwich shape adds depth to its design. It has a little seconds subdial at 9 o’clock, a lume-filled central hours and minutes hand.

A balancing date window at three o’clock has a colour scheme that makes it blend nicely with the overall design. A large 12 and 6 help to complete the symmetry of the design elements for a balanced look.

The Luminor Quaranta Verde Militare is powered by the self-winding P.900 movement. It boasts a remarkable three-day power reserve on a single barrel, and the closed case back provides 100 metres of water resistance. The Incabloc anti-shock device feature will shield the balance wheel in the case of a shock.

This watch comes with a military green alligator strap that has matching green stitching on it and a green rubber strap for the option. A quick-release system makes it simple to change the strap, so this watch might be quite adaptable for any situation.

The Luminor Quaranta Verde Militare is limited to only 500 pieces. For more information about the Panerai collection, visit The Time Place boutique.
