Piaget has debuted the Altiplano Ultimate Concept Midnight Blue, the newest rendition of its ultra-thin watch, which was originally exhibited as a functioning prototype in 2018 and released on the market in 2020.

The Altiplano Ultimate Concept was developed and produced entirely in-house by Piaget’s dedicated Research and Innovation division, requiring the filing of no fewer than five patents, including a case that forms part of the movement, a unique, integrated winding crown, an ultra-thin crystal, and new barrel and energy regulation constructions.

The new Altiplano Ultimate Concept Midnight Blue ref. G0A47507 features an even more fundamental design, even closer to the Maison’s traditional colour, with a deep and captivating blue tone. This is a first for Piaget, as prior hours and minutes of Altiplano Ultimate Concept models were created on commission and tailored for each buyer.

Its 41-mm case is built of a unique cobalt alloy that resists torsion, allowing it to be 25% thinner than a precious metal. Moreover, despite its 2 mm thickness, it is water-resistant up to 20 metres. The visible mainspring barrel is positioned within the watch frame on a single ceramic ball bearing, allowing the 4Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) movement to run for up to 40 hours when completely wound.

The flat crown is perfectly aligned with the case band, which protects both the crown and the movement from unnecessary shock. A single ‘infinite screw’ replaces the traditional sliding pinion clutch and crown wheel.

Because the dial was off-center, a patented staggered stem was created because a regular straight winding stem could not be used. The typical hour hand has been replaced by a spinning indication disc, but the minute hand operates normally.

The highlight of this watch is where the dial is positioned beneath the bridge, unlike the traditional setup with a dial and two hands that are placed at the top of a bridge. Not just about the aesthetic side, that design also ensures protection against any contact with the remarkable thin crystal.

Complement the look of the case and dial, The Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept Midnight Blue ref. G0A47507 comes with an ultra-thin alligator strap and an ultra-thin cobalt pin buckle. The full blue attire just feels right on this watch.
